Get Some Eats!
Want to know the best places to go for dinner in Hull? There are eateries to suit every taste; whether you’re after seafood, Mediterranean tapas, Indian, bohemian street food or good ol’ Yorkshire grub. Alternatively, visit Trinity indoor market for fresh, local meat, fruit and veg to cook up in your apartment.
Brunch along the waterfront area near Princes’ Quay is a lovely way to ease yourself awake, with independent cafes and delis such as Nibble, McCoy’s, Thieving Harry’s and Furley & Co serving delicious food in cosy, ambient settings. The Head of Steam in Trinity Square is ideal for brunch, lunch and dinner, and their Dirk Benedict with tender pulled pork is well worth a try.
For good ol’ pub grub, the Lion & Key, Old House Pub, Minerva and Sailmakers Arms are top choices, and you can’t go far wrong with some of the world’s finest ‘chippies’ that frequent the city. The Old Corn Exchange pub serves award-winning Pieminister pies if you’re after a hearty helping of comfort food, or a ‘higher end’ yet still traditional option is top-notch British grill 1884 Dock Street. The menu uses locally sourced ingredients to make dishes such as Rabbit Terrine and Pigeon, and the fine wines are not to be missed!
The gastro scene in and around Humber Street is growing, thanks to a few key players. Tapasya provides diners with top quality Indian food in an elegant and sophisticated setting, and Butler White’s promises casual, bistro-style dining with a regularly-changing, experimental menu. Finally, Ambiente is the perfect addition to the up and coming Fruit Market area thanks to its authentic, laid-back Spanish feel and a trendy, industrial look. The tapas is perfect for those who want to try a bit of everything! Why not follow your meal with some after - dinner gin cocktails a few doors down at the brand new Humber Street Distillery Co.?
Until September, Trinity Square will become a piazza thanks to the monthly street food nights; allowing you to try some of the city’s favourite food all at once. In addition to the local high quality hot food vendors (including Shoot the Bull, Kerb Edge and Tapasya), there’ll be entertainment such as a DJ and live music, magicians, jugglers and fire eaters; giving it a bohemian feel.
Finally, Italian food enthusiasts will love both Lucca and Gusto da Gianni; both on Princes Avenue a little further afield. If you’re a steak lover, Lucca is the perfect place and serves some killer cocktails! It’s a popular option for special occasions or romantic date nights. Gusto da Gianni has a great atmosphere and offers classic, authentic Italian dishes using only the freshest products and ingredients.
